Denver Pyle, best known as Uncle Jesse Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard, was born on this day (May 11th) in 1920 (d: 12/25/1997). But before becoming a beloved television icon, Pyle proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II.
During his military service, Denver Pyle was wounded in the Battle of Guadalcanal — one of the most important battles in the Pacific Theater. His service and sacrifice are part of a remarkable history many fans never knew about.
