8(a) Business Development Program Series IV – Module 3: Winning Contracts

Program Format: Webinar Training Topics: Government Contracting, Marketing/Sales, Other, Prime Vendor Program, Selling to Government, Subcontracting Description: 8a Business Development Boot Camp is an initiative to train small, disadvantaged businesses to become 8a certified.? The Fresno District Office will provide four consecutive classes on a quarterly basis to give small business owners the technical assistance they need to prepare successful 8a applications.? ? 8a certified businesses? can receive sole-source Federal contracts of up to $4 million for goods and services and $6.5 million for manufacturing.? They also qualify for specialized training, and marketing assistance; and receive access to surplus government property.

8(a) certified companies can form joint ventures and teams to successfully compete for larger prime contracts, and participate in Mentor Protégé agreements with bigger, more experienced companies

Module 1 – Setting Expectations This first module reviews the program purpose, identifies the eligibility requirements and provides the attendee with the application process

Module  2 – Introduction to Federal Contracting This second module provides the scope of the federal buying market, the types of Prime Contract and Subcontracting Assistance. This module also identifies the different types of contracts and agreements, and the resources and assistance available.

Module 3 – Winning Contracts This third module gives an overview of Federal contracts. It identifies the need of marketing to the government, the approach to win contracts, types of solicitations, and the power of networking.

Module 4 – Business Planning and Operational Management The fourth module key objectives are to help firms understand the importance of planning and business development, especially in the 8(a) program.

The module provides an overview of financial management in regard to financial statements and raising capital and helps prospective program participants better understand the compliance and operational requirements associated with the 8(a) program. The Veterans Business Outreach Center is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving Veterans, Reservist, Active Duty, Guard, Transitioning Military members and their spouses in their initiatives to start, sustain or expand a small business.

The Center provides confidential and complimentary one-to-one small business consulting and training services to Veterans of all eras. This webinar is open to the general public.
