Creative Voice Veteran's Kiln Forming Class | SiNaCa Studios - School of Glass and Gallery - Fort Worth
Creative Voice Veteran’s Kiln Forming Class

Price: $600 ($810 value) for all 6 Meetings in a Session or $115 ($155 value) per Individual Meeting | Class Size: Min 2 – Max 6 | Prerequisite: Veteran

Every service member, active duty or veteran, has a story. Whether the story be about the past, the present or the future, it often times is not shared.  Through the visual arts, members of the military community can fully dive into a visual, tangible representation of their story: thoughts, emotions, fears, desires, etc. Glass as a creative form can be used to improve health and wellness, either by providing a productive distraction or as a tool of self-expression that gives a participant a voice.

Creative Voice Veteran’s Kiln Forming Class uses project based learning to teach basic kiln forming fundamentals and then allows participants to choose to work individually or as a unit, small scale, or large scale, to accomplish design based or narrative based work.

Kiln Forming is a discipline in which glass is manipulated in a ‘cold’ state initially, then put into a kiln that fires up to 1,500 degrees to melt together.  The applications of this discipline are endless and require little time to develop and practice basic fundamental skills.

When a 6-week session has reached the minimum requirements, registration for individual sessions will open up.  This will allow perspective participants to try out the class by joining in on a individual meeting or current participants to bring a fellow veteran to join them for an individual meeting.

Identifying Your Creative Voice: Is a series of six 3-hour classes that will introduce the veteran to exciting new techniques in Kiln Formed glass.  Each meeting is designed to teach participants new techniques and to build a progression of skill and creative visual voice. Participants can sign up for a individual meeting to learn a different technique, or sign up for all 6 meetings to build on the existing technique to create a larger design based work, guided by our dedicated instructors.  Design based work can be expressed in pattern, form, line, shape with a focus in decorative functional application.

Igniting Your Creative Voice: Is a 6-week class that allows veterans to push their creativity to the next level.  It is an opportunity to self-explore through the visual arts through designing and creating their ideas with the guidance of our talented instructors. In this class, participants will have the opportunity to use techniques learned from previous classes to create a series of individual works that tells a story.   Narrative based work can be hand drawn/painted, screen printed or even etched in the glass.

COVID-19 Notes (updated 6/1/2021)

We will continue enforcing a face covering policy for all staff, students and gallery guests. Face coverings will remain mandatory when entering and moving about the building and when teaching or taking a class. We have not officially set a benchmark to fully roll back this policy.

Traditionally, SiNaCa Studios has had a “the more, the merrier” policy for our classes, but these are not traditional times. So, to keep our small space safe for everyone, we have enacted a “Participants Only” policy for all classes. Guardians accompanying participating minors will be the only exception. All non-participating observers will be asked to remain outside of the building. Guests are welcome to visit the on-site glass gallery.

Please refer to the FAQ section of our website to see all measures that we are taking to keep our staff and participants safe. If you are a first-time participant, you can find a link to our Risk and Release form on the FAQ page. You are welcome to bring a completed form with you. We will also have blank forms available during class check-in. ALL participants are required to have a completed form on file.
