Who: This FREE event is for Faith Community Representatives, Pastors, Clergy, Veterans, anyone interested in exploring intersections of Veteran-specific issues and spiritual care implications.

What: Many Veterans are likely to turn to clergy before seeking mental health treatment. This event will provide community clergy with information/training on Suicide Prevention and Moral Injury, led by subject matter experts.

Topics will include:

  • 1000-1100- Suicide Prevention & Spiritual Care
  • 1100-1200- Moral Injury & Building Spiritual Strengths (BSS)

What is the cost of the event?

The Event is FREE. Registration is required to receive WebEx link to attend.

What time does registration close? 

Registration closes Thursday 5/19/2022 4:00PM.

Why do you need my info on the registration page?

This training is offered in collaboration with the VA National Chaplain Service, following suggested guidance for “2022 Community Clergy Training Events.” Following the event we are required to report certain data items back to the VA National Chaplain Service, including: 1) Date of Event; 2) Your VA Location; 3) Number of Total Participants at Event; 4) Number of Total Community Clergy at Event; 5) Number of Total Veterans at Event; 6) Percentage of Clergy who have a favorable opinion of VHA; 7) Estimation by clergy of number of Veterans they serve in their house of worship; 8) Percentage of Clergy who request additional training via local chaplain service. We are also required to report attendees knowledge of moral injury and suicide prevention Pre/Post event. We will send a post-event survey to all registrants following the event to confirm your attendance and your responses to the Post-Program questionnaire.

When will I get the link for attending the event?

After successfully registering you will receive an email confirmation containing the WebEx link to join the event. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your junk folders. If you still cannot locate the confirmation email, please contact the event organizer.

What is Building Spiritual Strengths (BSS)?

  • Manualized, 8-session, group counseling approach for PTSD and spiritual distress/moral injury.
  • Tested in two funded randomized controlled trials with proven effects on PTSD symptoms and spiritual distress.
  • Low dropout rate, data trend toward greater effectiveness for minority veterans.
  • The specific type of spiritual distress addressed in the protocol is a risk factor for suicide.

What are my technology requirements for attending this event?

You may join via Web Browser, although the free WebEx application (for smart phone or PC) will allow a better participation experience. We encourage you to log on no later than 9:50AM to ensure your technology is working.

What if I can’t get my internet to work on the day of the event, or my connection drops?

If you disconnect unexpectedly from the event, please close your browser/app and then rejoin the event. If you continue to have connection issues, we suggest you use the phone call-in option.

Will slides/handouts be available after the event?
