February Luncheon | Rapid City Chief of Police, Don Hedrick – The Rushmore Hotel Rapid City

Free – $20Don Hedrick grew up in Jackson, Minnesota and attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2002 and began his law enforcement career at the Rapid City Police Department the same year. Hedrick has since risen through the ranks of the department, executing ancillary duties in the Special Response Team and in the instruction of defensive tactics, Tasers, and fitness. He has been a Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Special Operations Lieutenant, and the Captain of Support Services Division. Hedrick obtained a Master’s Degree in Administrative Studies in 2008 from the University of South Dakota. In 2014 he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He was named Assistant Chief of Police in 2015 and in 2016 was named one of the IACP’s 40 Under 40. He serves on many boards to better our community, to include the Board of Directors for the Club for Boys, the Downtown Business Improvement District, the South Dakota Crisis Intervention Team Review Board, and the City/County Alcohol & Drug Programs Board. He was appointed Chief of Police in August 2020, and is currently working on his Ph.D. as a fellow with Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health with a focus on violence reduction.
