The 2020 Virtual Charleston Veteran’s Day Parade

November 11, 2020 @ 9:30 am EST

Since we are unable to gather on the streets of downtown Charleston to celebrate our Veterans this year, our VA is hosting a Virtual Veterans Day Parade to honor our Veterans and show community support for their service to our nation. The event will be broadcast on our Ralph H. Johnson VAMC Facebook Page.

Those interested must first submit an application by Oct. 16, 2020.

Step 1: Fill out the Parade application.  (Only one application per unit is needed // only one video per unit is permitted). Include a completed MEDIA RELEASE FORM.  You only need ONE for your group, but keep in mind that submitting this allows the VA to use the image of EVERYONE in your video in a public capacity.

Step 2: Once you hit “submit”, the VIDEO SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS will pop up.  You will want to print these out, and make a note of the submission email address.  All videos must be submitted by Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 and you will need to follow the submission instructions to make sure your video is included in the final line-up!

RULES OF PARTICIPATION
PARADE IMAGE The Veterans Day Parade is an opportunity for our community to come together as one group to honor our Nation’s Heroes. We request that all video entries show respect to our Veterans by honoring all genders, gender identities, ages, races, cultures and creeds. Please refrain from any displays or behaviors that would demean any segment of our community.

CONDUCT OF PARADE PARTICIPANTS All participants in the virtual parade should conduct themselves in such a manner as to promote Veteran pride and patriotism. No participant may use profanity, obscene gestures, or other improper conduct towards another participant, volunteer, parade official or viewer of the parade.

PARADE LINE UP The virtual parade line up will be determined by RHJ VAMC VA Voluntary Service. The decisions rendered by Ralph H. Johnson VAMC Voluntary Service will be final and we maintain the right to refuse or deny any application or video entry as a result of missed deadlines, non-adherence to the Rules of Participation, or non-adherence to the video submission guidelines.

ALCOHOL AND ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES No virtual parade participant will be permitted to consume any alcoholic beverage, marijuana or other substances in their video units, or show signs of intoxication. Use of illegal or controlled substances will not be permitted by any participant during the parade and video units that exhibit these behaviors will not be featured in the broadcast.

AGE REQUIREMENTS Participants must be at least 13 years old to submit a parade unit video. However, children of all ages may participate in parade unit videos if enabled by a parent or legal guardian. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian’s permission to participate in or submit a parade unit video. Please have them read this Agreement with you. If you are a parent or legal guardian of a user under the age of 18, by allowing your child to participate in or submit a parade unit video, you are subject to the terms of this Agreement and responsible for your child’s activity in participating in the Veterans Day Parade. Parents or legal guardians must sign the media release form.
