Wesley W. Black Memorial Fire Conference
November 27, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST
$80This full-day Fire Training Conference offers top-notch education from some of the most skilled and knowledgeable tradesmen of our craft.
The Wesley W. Black Memorial Fire Conference was created to provide Fire Service education and information and to carry on the legacy and mindset of its namesake. SSG Wesley Black was a beloved and respected member of the Vermont National Guard and Hartford, VT Fire Department prior to his passing in 2021 from cancer acquired from exposure to burn pits during his time in combat in the Middle East. Wesley was the type of individual who consistently made you feel like you were the most important person in the world, and embodied the best qualities of the fire service such as Loyalty, Integrity, Brotherhood, and Work Ethic. His desire to help others continued all the way until his passing, fighting for federal legislation and early prevention measures to prevent other Veterans from sharing his same struggles. In his honor, the Wesley W. Black Memorial Fire Conference hopes to carry on his passion for the job and the people invested in it by providing top-tier education he could be proud of.
This Innagural Conference will feature two FDIC lectures provided by two of the best in the business:
The day will open with a half-day lecture by LT Nick Papa of the New Britain (CT) Fire Department on Coordinating Ventilation – Supporting Extinquishment and Survivability. This presentation examines Fireground Ventilation and its relationship to fire behavior to identify how it affects the fire, operations, and – most importantly – victim survivability. This lecture is applicable of all agencies of all sizes and shapes as ventilation can be universally applied, from the smallest rural community to the largest metropolitan city.
After lunch, which will be included and catered on-site, the conference will keep rolling strong with a presentation by Firefighter Tim Griswold of the Portsmouth (NH) Fire Department. This lecture will be on Maximizing the Effectiveness of Fire-Based Ambulance Crews on the Fireground. Whether your agency does or does not provide EMS transport and Ambulance services, you likely have them on your run card as first responding incidents and while most fire departments have taken an all-hazards approach to emergency response, the primary mission of the fire department remains fire suppression. This half-day FDIC lecture explains how to maximize the capabilities of the ambulance crew during fire suppression operations by using their staffing, skills, and knowledge; how fire department administration can create policies to efficiently integrate the ambulance crew into fireground operations; how to properly equip the ambulance for the tasks that the crew could be expected to perform; and for firefighters assigned to ambulances, how to maintain the proper mindset to be a valuable asset on the fireground.
Both of these presentations have been featured at FDIC International and have received strong reviews by those who have attended. The information provided is the tip of the spear in the modern fire service, and backed up not only by validated science, but by the anecdotal experiences of those who perform at the highest level. Please join us in commemorating Wesley W. Black and honoring his legacy of professionalism and passion and register for your spot today.
*A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, raffles, and donations will go to a charitable cause in Wesley’s name.
