SUMMARY:U.S. Flag Day
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Flag Day\nClick here to see a full list of military holidays\, birthdays\, anniversaries and observances!\nOn June 14\, 1777\, the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag. \nSince 1916\, when President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing a National Flag Day on June 14\, Americans have commemorated the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by celebrating June 14 as Flag Day. Prior to 1916\, many localities and a few states had been celebrating the day for years. Congressional legislation designating that date as the national Flag Day was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949; the legislation also called upon the president to issue a Flag Day proclamation every year.\n\n\n\n \nAccording to legend\, in 1776\, George Washington commissioned Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross to create a flag for the new nation. Scholars debate this legend\, but agree that Mrs. Ross most likely knew Washington and sewed flags. To date\, there have been twenty-seven official versions of the flag\, but the arrangement of the stars varied according to the flag-makers’ preferences until 1912 when President Taft standardized the then-new flag’s forty-eight stars into six rows of eight. The forty-nine-star flag (1959-60)\, as well as the fifty-star flag\, also have standardized star patterns. The current version of the flag dates to July 4\, 1960\, after Hawaii became the fiftieth state on August 21\, 1959. \nFlag Day is not an official federal holiday\, though on June 14\, 1937\, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday\, beginning in the town of Rennerdale.  Title 36 of the United States Code\, Subtitle I\, Part A\, CHAPTER 1\, § 110 is the official statute on Flag Day; however\, it is at the President’s discretion to officially proclaim the observance. \nClick the button above to subscribe to VOB’s YouTube Channel! \nWe’d appreciate it if you would please take a second and subscribe to the Veteran Owned Business “newish” YouTube channel. SUMMARY:Public Tours of the Military Women's Memorial
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nJoin us for a guided tour of the Military Women’s Memorial\, led by one of our knowledgeable MWM docents\, and experience the powerful\, often untold stories of women who have served our Nation. \nThe Military Women’s Memorial is the only national memorial and historical repository dedicated to documenting the stories of all women who serve in\, or with\, the U.S. Armed Forces. Located at the heart of Arlington National Cemetery\, our education center is where these stories are preserved\, shared\, and honored. \nThis special guided tour traces women’s service from the American Revolution to today. Although women were not officially allowed to serve in direct combat until 2016\, they have always served close to the front lines—risking capture\, injury\, and even giving their lives in service to their country. As you move through the exhibits\, you’ll explore the many ways women served\, with or without permission\, and how trailblazing women repeatedly proved their capability when given the opportunity. \nThe tour also provides a closer look at the Memorial’s exhibits\, artifacts\, and personal stories\, as well as the history of the building itself—how it connects to Arlington National Cemetery and how the Military Women’s Memorial came to be located here. Led by a member of the collections staff\, attendees will also learn about the wide variety of materials held by the Memorial\, the unique stories they tell\, and how these resources can be used by researchers. \nWhether you are visiting for the first time or returning to learn more\, this guided tour offers a meaningful and engaging way to connect with the enduring legacy of women’s military service. \nREGISTER NOW  \nVisitor Information \n\nParking: Arlington National Cemetery Parking Garage ($3/hour\, $12 daily maximum)\nMetro: Arlington Cemetery Metro Station (Blue Line)\, an easy walk to the Memorial\nSecurity: All attendees must pass through security screening at the Arlington National Cemetery Welcome Center. Please allow approximately 15 minutes for screening and travel time from the garage or Metro stop.

SUMMARY:The Network: Direct Employer Access (Norfolk)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nStop applying online. Start shaking hands. Bypass the resume “black hole.” Meet vetted hiring managers who know what your clearance is worth\n\n\n\nThe Algorithm Can’t Hire You. We Can.\nThe Problem: You spend hours tailoring your resume. You submit it to an online portal. You wait. You hear nothing. The “Black Hole” of online applications is the enemy of a fast transition. \nThe Solution: The Network is your bypass. We cut the red tape and put you in the room with the people who actually sign the offer letters. \nThis isn’t a “job fair” where you collect brochures. This is a tactical access point to the 757’s most aggressive military-hiring companies. We have vetted every employer in the room. They aren’t here to tell you to “apply on the website”—they are here to find their next team leader. \nWho Should Attend: \nTransitioning Service Members: Who are tired of the waiting game. \nMilitary Spouses: Looking for employers who understand the PCS lifestyle. \nVeterans: Ready to level up from their current civilian role. \nYour Rules of Engagement:\nBring Resumes if you have them BUT no biggie if you don’t. \nBe Social: No stress\, take your 30 seconds to tell them who you are. Make it count. Learn who they are and what they’re looking for. If it’s not you\, how you can help. \nThe job market is all about who you know. Come know the right people. \nIf you have any additional questions\, please do not hesitate to contact us: \nPhone: 757-807-0423 \nEmail: mi***************@*****************il.org \nGET YOUR TICKETS NOW  \nThis event and the services provided herein at the Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Centers are funded through 25% or $199\,576 through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and 75% or $580\,391 through nonfederal sources.
