Garry Marshall is well-known as a director, producer, writer and credited/uncredited actor, but did you know he also proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War? Garry Marshall is another in a long list of Famous Veterans who are unique in the fact that they all wore a military uniform at one time or another in their lives! After attending Northwestern University with a major in Journalism, Marshall joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in the Korean War. Once separated, he took a job as a report with the New York Daily News.
Marshall died on July 19, 2016 from complications following a stroke. He was 81.

Garry Marshall got his start writing comedy for comedians eventually landing a spot as a writer on The Tonight Show With Jack Paar.
In 1961 he headed out west to Los Angeles where he started writing for The Joey Bishop Show.
Marshall teamed up with Jerry Belson to write episodes for several well-known television including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Lucy Show and I Spy. The two developed the sitcom for The Odd Couple (staring fellow Army veteran, Jack Klugman as Oscar Madison and Tony Randall as Felix Unger).
