Happy 251st Anniversary to the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps | 251 Years of Faith, Service & Sacrifice
Today we proudly celebrate the 251st Anniversary of the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps, established on July 29, 1775, just weeks after the creation of the Continental Army.
For more than two and a half centuries, Army Chaplains have faithfully served alongside America’s Soldiers—providing spiritual care, religious support, comfort, and hope during both peace and war. Their enduring mission remains simple yet profound:
🇺🇸 “Nurture the living, care for the wounded, and honor the fallen.”
Since its founding:
✝️ Approximately 25,000 Army Chaplains have served.
🇺🇸 They have ministered to more than 25 million Soldiers and their Families.
🪖 Army Chaplains have served in more than 270 major wars and combat engagements.
❤️ Nearly 300 Army Chaplains have given their lives in service to our nation.
🎖️ Eight members of the Army Chaplain Corps have been awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism.
⛪ Today, more than 3,000 Army Chaplains, representing over 140 religious organizations, serve throughout the Total Force, ensuring the constitutional right to the free exercise of religion for Soldiers around the world.
From the battlefields of the American Revolution to today’s global missions, Army Chaplains have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with America’s Soldiers, offering spiritual guidance, moral leadership, and compassionate care wherever duty calls.
The U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School, now located at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, continues a proud tradition of preparing Chaplains and Religious Affairs Specialists to serve Soldiers, Families, and military communities around the world.
As we commemorate this historic milestone, we extend our deepest gratitude to every past and present Army Chaplain and Religious Affairs Specialist for their unwavering dedication, compassion, courage, and faithful service to God, Country, and the American Soldier.
