Happy 87th Birthday to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary!
Today, June 23rd, we recognize and celebrate the 87th Birthday of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, established by Congress on June 23, 1939.
For 87 years, Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers have proudly served America’s waterways and coastal communities by promoting boating safety, supporting search and rescue missions, conducting public education programs, assisting with vessel examinations, supporting environmental protection efforts, and augmenting the missions of the United States Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is comprised entirely of dedicated volunteers who donate countless hours in service to their communities and country. Their commitment helps save lives, improve maritime safety, and strengthen the Coast Guard’s ability to protect our nation’s waterways.
Over the years, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has counted several notable Americans among its members and supporters, including actor Lloyd Bridges, who served as an Honorary Commodore of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, legendary broadcaster Walter Cronkite, actor Leif Erickson, actor Preston Foster, and famed Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler. Their involvement helped bring greater public awareness to the Auxiliary’s mission of boating safety, maritime education, and community service.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all current and former Coast Guard Auxiliary members for their selfless service, professionalism, and dedication to America’s maritime heritage.
