Happy Heavenly Birthday to WWII Veteran & H&R Block Co-Founder Henry W. Bloch
Today we remember and honor Henry W. Bloch (July 30, 1922 – April 23, 2019), a World War II veteran, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and co-founder of H&R Block.
Before helping build one of America’s most recognized tax preparation companies, Bloch answered his nation’s call to serve during World War II. As a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served as a navigator aboard B-17 Flying Fortress bombers with the Eighth Air Force, flying 32 combat missions over Germany, including missions over Berlin. For his courage and service, he was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
Following the war, Henry and his brother Richard founded H&R Block in 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri, creating a company that would grow into a household name while also leaving a lasting legacy of philanthropy and community service.
