Hey patriotic folks… it’s time for a special shoutout! 🇺🇸🎉
Today we’re wishing a very happy 78th birthday to the one and only Jerry Mathers — yes, The Beaver from the legendary Leave It to Beaver!
Can you believe it’s been that many years since we watched Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver getting into all sorts of wholesome mischief in Mayfield? Jerry Mathers became one of television’s most recognizable child stars and remains beloved by generations of fans.
But here’s something many people may not know…
Jerry Mathers isn’t just a television icon — he’s also a veteran.
🇺🇸 Jerry proudly served in the California Air National Guard from 1966 to 1969, balancing military duties alongside his entertainment career.
And he wasn’t the only member of the Leave It to Beaver family with military ties.
🇺🇸 Tony Dow, who played Wally Cleaver, served in the California Army National Guard from 1965 to 1968, where he worked as a photographer with the 40th Armored Division’s Special Services during the Vietnam era.
🇺🇸 Ken Osmond, remembered by millions as Eddie Haskell, also served in the United States Army Reserve during the final years of Leave It to Beaver, balancing military duties with filming and Reserve appearances.
🇺🇸 And Leave It to Beaver co-creator Joe Connelly served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, with his life experiences helping shape the heart and storytelling behind the show.
That’s an incredible legacy of service tied to one of America’s most beloved classic television series.
So today we raise a glass — or maybe a milkshake in true Beaver style 🥤 — to Jerry Mathers on his 78th birthday, with a huge thank you to Jerry, Tony Dow, Ken Osmond, and Joe Connelly for their service to our nation.
