Maryland Business Conference to Honor Veterans and Grow Veteran Owned Businesses

BALTIMORE, MD–(Marketwired – Apr 29, 2014) – The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Maryland Department of Veteran Affairs are sponsoring the Maryland Military and Veteran Women Business Conference. The conference will take place on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 8AM to 3PM at Morgan State University in the Calvin and Tina Tyler Ballroom. This conference is designed to connect active duty military personnel, transitioning soldiers, military spouses, veterans and emerging entrepreneurs with information and resources to grow their business successfully. All are welcome to attend.
During the event, attendees will experience a one-day intensive networking opportunity that offers workshops on business planning, financing options, social media, government certifications, and franchising. In addition, resource experts will provide free coaching sessions on various business topics; and participants will gain valuable insight from dynamic speakers that include Dr. Elisa Basnight, Director of Center for Women Veterans, and Dr. Lawrencia C. Pierce, Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Veteran Affairs. The day will conclude with the Roll Call Awards ceremony.
The Roll Call Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to military, veterans and their families. Award nominations and self-nominations are currently being accepted. A completed nomination form and all supporting materials must be submitted by 4:30 PM on Friday, May 20, 2014 and can be obtained at www.marylandwomenvets.com. Awards will be presented in the following categories:

  • Hero Award – Salutes two veterans, a business and/or organization that demonstrate commitment and service to veterans.
  • Student Veteran Award – Honors a current veteran college student who demonstrates leadership, scholarship and personal integrity.
  • Woman Veteran of the Year – Pays tribute to a woman, veteran business owner who has demonstrated exemplary military service, community service and support for veterans.
  • Veterans in the Community – Recognizes veteran business owners making an impact through volunteerism.
  • Organization Supporting Women Veteran Entrepreneurs – Celebrates government agencies, non-profits, academic institutions and private industry for expanding opportunities to women, veteran-owned businesses.
