Today, April 30th, we celebrate National Bugs Bunny Day—but here’s a story you might not know.
In the 1943 Super-Rabbit cartoon by Warner Bros., Bugs Bunny finds himself in a tough spot after losing his superpowers. In classic Bugs fashion, he turns the situation into something unforgettable—appearing in a United States Marine Corps uniform while singing the Marines’ Hymn and marching off to take on enemies abroad.
The tribute was so well received that the Marine Corps honored Bugs Bunny with the title of Honorary Marine, even enlisting him as a Marine Private during World War II. By the end of the war, he held the rank of Master Sergeant.
It’s a fun but meaningful reminder of how pop culture and patriotism have often gone hand in hand—especially during times of war.
