In honor of Armed Forces Week 2012 (May 12th through May 20th), we are working to article about various events, specials, discounts, freebies and more being offered this week in honor of all our brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces!

History of Armed Forces Week:

Armed Forces Week is traditionally scheduled to coincide with Armed Forces Day and offers an opportunity for our community to express its gratitude to the military for their dedication and service to the nation.  Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May. Armed Forces Week begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May, the day after Armed Forces Day.  Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May; which is National Military Appreciation Month.  Armed forces week serves to increase public understanding of the role of the military in a democratic society as well as honor and acknowledge the people of the Armed Forces of the United States.

There are many Armed Forces Week events taking place around our country. In conjunction with many of these events, restaurants, stores, businesses and more are offering specials, discounts, coupons, freebies and more. From motorcycle rides, concerts and job fairs to golf tournaments and free entrance into sporting events, there are many activities taking place this week to honor all members of all branches of our armed forces. Please be careful with any discounts you see specifically for Armed Forces Week. Please do your due diligence prior to purchasing anything (especially online).
