WWII Living History Event – American Legion Post 218
May 21, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm CDT
FreeAmerican Legion Post 218 of Washington, MO., will present WW2 Weekend, a living history event Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to wear 1940s apparel.
World War II re-enactors wearing period clothing will display their vehicles, weapons and related items on the American Legion grounds. The Washington Historical Society and the Franklin County Historical Society will have displays in the Legion Hall.
We hope to have World War II veterans at this event, where they will be honored. If you know of a WWII veteran who would like to be a part of this event, please contact J.C. Hagedorn (636-384-1012).
Dixie D’s USO Canteen will take our audience back to the days when USO shows at home and abroad featured entertainers, such as Bob Hope, The Andrews Sisters, Abbott and Costello and more. The program features period clothing and music, dancing and comedy. Dixie often performs at World War II era re-enactments.
The Post 218 Family will offer barbecued sandwiches, meats and meals for sale. Soda, beer and water will be available.
While the event is free, donations will be gratefully accepted. Members will also be taking donations for the annual Poppy Days, which benefits veterans.
It will be held rain or shine. Parking will be located at the Mercy Hospital lot west of the Post Home.
Re-enactors can set up Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
