Born on this day in 1901, Rudy Vallée became one of America’s first teen idols, earning fame as a singer, actor, bandleader and radio personality. While millions remember him for his remarkable entertainment career, we also honor his desire to serve his country.
In 1917, Vallée enlisted in the United States Navy during World War I, but military officials soon discovered he was only 15 years old. He was discharged after just 41 days, yet his willingness to answer the call to serve remains an important part of his story.
