Historical military event with a Veterans Museum, Higgins Boat, military vehicles , reenactors , food & military vendors & beer garden.

 

The Miami Valley Veterans Museum of Troy, Ohio, in cooperation with the Ohio Motor Pool, Reenactors, Veterans and Volunteers, will host the first annual “Troops In Town Then & Now” a military timeline event, on Sept 10, 11 & 12th, 2021. “Troops In Town Then & Now” will take place at the new Miami Valley Veterans Museum located at 2245 S. County Rd. 25A, Troy, Ohio 45373.“Troops In Town Then & Now” and will be open to the public Friday Sept.10th,2021 from 2pm- 9 pm, Saturday Sept.11th,2021 8:00am –9 pm & Sunday Sept. 12th.2021 10am – 4pm Admission is free.

This wonderful educational family event will feature a variety of Military equipment that will include original and authentically restored military vehicles representing various time periods of conflicts past and present. Visitors will also enjoy the re-enactors and living history encampments, viewing the authentic military uniforms and artifacts and home front displays. Also planned will be various military drill demonstrations and displays.



Area non-profit organizations, veteran’s organizations and vendors will also be on display throughout the day, a historic family friendly passport game, presentations, book signings, scheduled field demos, great food and a beer garden. While visiting the event, do not miss this perfect opportunity to visit the Miami Valley Veterans Museum that Honors, Preserves and Perpetuates the legacy of Miami Valley Veterans. The 12000 sq. ft. museum facility currently has on loan an original WWII unaltered wooden Higgins Boat that saw service in Okinawa, Japan during WWII.

The museum also features a scale model sculpture of One World Trade Center Plaza before the 911 attack, by artist Michael Bayshaw and a piece of the World Trade Center wreckage donated by the Port Authority of New York City.

Visitors will also see “Veterans Marching Through Time” a full color 48 foot timeline mural that depicts military service from 1795- to present day.

Museum exhibits feature the uniforms personal items and equipment carried by those who have served our country in the US Military as well as photo murals created from the museums rich photo archive that grace the walls of the exhibit spaces. The museum also features a library, theater, scale models of aircraft and military vehicles, The Hall Of Heroes and a museum gift shop for visitors to explore. Museum admission will be free.

It is suggested that visitors park free of charge at the Miami County Fairgrounds for a shuttle that will stop at three events on Sept 11 &12, 2021 in recognition of the 20th anniversary of 911.The shuttle will run from the Miami County Fairground’s “First Responder Weekend”, with family friendly activities then to downtown Troy where the traveling “Never Forget, World Trade Center Traveling Exhibit” will be on display in front of the Courthouse. The shuttle then travels to “Troops In Town, Then & Now” a timeline military event at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum.
