Before becoming one-half of the legendary entertainment duo Steve & Eydie, acclaimed singer, comedian, and actor Steve Lawrence proudly served in the United States Army.
Known for his incredible musical career alongside his wife Eydie Gormé, Steve Lawrence also appeared in numerous television shows and films, including his memorable role as Maury Sline in The Blues Brothers.
Drafted into the Army in the late 1950s, Lawrence served as the official vocal soloist with the United States Army Band, better known as “Pershing’s Own,” in Washington, D.C., representing America’s military through music.
Today, on what would have been his 91st birthday, we celebrate his remarkable life, extraordinary career, and faithful service to our nation.
