Born August 25, 1931, Regis Philbin became one of the most recognizable and beloved personalities in American television history.
Before his legendary career in entertainment, Regis proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Supply Corps Officer from 1953–1955. ⚓🇺🇸
Following his military service, Regis embarked on an extraordinary television career spanning more than six decades. He became a household name as the longtime host of Live!, first alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and later Kelly Ripa.
He reached an entirely new level of fame as the original host of the U.S. version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, where his famous question — “Is that your final answer?” — became one of television’s most recognizable catchphrases.
Regis also hosted the first season of America’s Got Talent, earned multiple Daytime Emmy Awards, received a Lifetime Achievement Award, and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2006.
His incredible amount of time in front of the camera also earned him a Guinness World Record for the most hours on U.S. television.
Regis Philbin passed away on July 24, 2020, at the age of 88, just over a month before what would have been his 89th birthday.
Today, on what would have been his 95th birthday, we remember an American television icon whose humor, personality and unmistakable enthusiasm entertained generations.
