VA Inspector General Joins National Fraud Detection Center to Strengthen Fight Against Fraud
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) has announced a new partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of the launch of the National Fraud Detection Center (NFDC).
As a signatory to the NFDC Charter, the VA OIG is committing dedicated analysts and investigators to the prosecutor-led initiative, which is designed to improve coordination among agencies and strengthen efforts to detect, investigate and dismantle complex fraud schemes.
VA Inspector General Cheryl L. Mason emphasized that protecting VA programs and veterans from fraud remains a major priority. Through the National Fraud Detection Center, VA OIG agents, analysts, auditors and inspectors will have greater access to shared tools, data and resources that can help identify and prevent fraud while holding accountable those who attempt to exploit programs and services intended for America’s veterans.
The NFDC brings together federal law enforcement agencies, Offices of Inspector General and state partners in a centralized collaborative effort. By working alongside the Department of Justice, other inspectors general and federal law enforcement agencies, the VA OIG aims to strengthen efforts to combat fraud and protect public resources.
The VA Office of Inspector General provides independent oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs, working to combat fraud, waste and abuse while improving the effectiveness and efficiency of programs serving veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors.
