Overview
Ruck for Rugrats was created by 5th Squad. The R4R is a 4.5-mile ruck march in conjunction with a toy drive to benefit Children’s of MS.
The Ruck for Rugrats was created by an organization called the 5th Squad. This organization is made up of a group of combat veterans who wanted to do something for children that are set apart during the holidays due to their illnesses. Much like veterans who often grapple with the isolation of their combat experiences, these youngsters can feel separated from the joys of the holiday season. 5th Squad endeavors to demonstrate to the young patients at Children’s of Mississippi Hospital that they are cherished and never forgotten. The toys will be mailed to 5th Squad’s headquarters. All toys and gifts purchased will be delivered directly to the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital.
Joining the Ruck for Rugrats is an opportunity for all to come together in the holiday spirit. To participate, attendees must bring their own ruck sack (or backpack) and be either over the age of 16 or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Everyone is warmly encouraged to contribute by donating a toy for this special event. The ruck march will cover approximately 4.5 miles at a 20-minute mile pace. A trail vehicle and a medic will be available along the route to provide support to anyone in need.
Participation in the Ruck for Rugrats is priced at $30 per person, which includes a commemorative T-shirt and other donated items from local businesses in the Jackson Metro area. To secure your T-shirt, be sure to sign up by December 1, 2025. Importantly, all proceeds from the sale of these shirts will be directed towards benefiting the Children’s of Mississippi Hospital, ensuring that the holiday season is truly magical for these children in need. Your participation and generosity can make a significant difference in brightening the lives of these young ones during the holiday season.
