2026 Public Service Recognition Week (May 3rd – May 9th)
Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), observed during the first full week of May, is dedicated to honoring the men and women who serve our nation at the federal, state, county, and local levels. These public servants work every day to keep our communities safe, our systems running, and our country strong.
Across the United States, communities come together to recognize their contributions. Mayors, governors, agencies, and organizations mark the week by issuing proclamations, hosting award ceremonies, organizing tribute events, and sharing messages that highlight the importance and impact of public service.
In Washington, D.C., national events often include town hall discussions with senior leaders and recognition ceremonies such as the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, which celebrate excellence in federal service.
Public servants deserve our appreciation not just this week, but throughout the entire year. Their dedication, innovation, and commitment improve our daily lives in ways we often don’t even realize.
