Attention Michigan Business Owners: Information about the Michigan Small Business Restart Grant Program

DEADLINE: Wednesday, August 5th!

Michigan Small Business Restart Grant Program

Applications are now open for a new grant opportunity, the Michigan Small Business Restart Program, which will provide grants to small businesses around the state working to recover from the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 virus. REMINDER: The deadline to apply for this grant is Wednesday, August 5.

The program application is available at michiganbusiness.org/restart. Additional information about the loan can be found below.

Working with its economic development partners across the state, Ann Arbor SPARK encouraged the state legislature to reconsider its previous criteria and consider previous grant awardees for this funding opportunity. Please note that if you previously received state grant funding you are now eligible to apply for this new funding opportunity.

If you have questions about the Michigan Small Business Restart Program please contact MEDC’s Help Center at (888) 522-0103 or email medceconomic@michigan.org. Assistance is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you reach voicemail, leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

More information about the Michigan Small Business Restart Program
Michigan Small Business Restart grants can be used as working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses, or other similar expenses. Businesses may apply for grants of up to $20,000. Thirty (30%) percent of the funds awarded under the program must be provided to women-owned, minority-owned, or veteran-owned eligible businesses.

As a base, the state requires the following criteria be met:

  • Is a business or nonprofit that can demonstrate it is affected by the COVID-19 emergency
  • Needs working capital to support eligible expenses
  • Demonstrates an income loss as result of the COVID-19 emergency

Since mid-March, Ann Arbor SPARK has provided numerous business resources in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These and future resources can be found at the Ann Arbor SPARK Business Resource Center.
