Today we honor two remarkable Americans who were both born on July 1st and proudly served in the United States Army before leaving their mark on Hollywood.
🎉 Happy 92nd Birthday to Jamie Farr! Best known for portraying Corporal Maxwell Q. “Klinger” on MASH*, Jamie Farr brought humor and heart to one of television’s most beloved series. A unique piece of television history: the dog tags Klinger wore throughout the show were Jamie Farr’s actual U.S. Army-issued dog tags from his own military service.
🕊️ Happy Heavenly Birthday to Sydney Pollack. Born on July 1, 1934, Pollack served in the U.S. Army before becoming one of Hollywood’s most respected directors, producers, and actors. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for Out of Africa and received numerous other Oscar nominations throughout his distinguished career. Sydney Pollack passed away on May 26, 2008, at the age of 73, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy in American cinema.
