It Is The Veteran – Read This Veterans Day Poem!
“It Is The Veteran” poster (along with chart showing each figure and which time period/war/conflict they represent) hangs in our office lobby at VOB.
Please “like” and “share” if you agree! This poem is at the heart of why we launched Veteran Owned Business 17 years ago (click here to watch a video version of this poster). Anyone can put a sticker on a window saying “we support our troops/veterans” but if you really want to show your support for those who served (and continue to serve) our great nation, make an effort to go out of your way to find a business owned by a military veteran! We launched on Veterans Day 2008 to give Americans an easy way to find, do business with and support businesses owned by our veterans, active duty military, reservists and military spouses. Thanks to support from our military community–16 years later–we’ve reached nearly 40,000 members, have over 400,000 supporters, have had over 50 million visitors and over 150 million pages viewed! Not too shabby for a grassroots movement started on Veterans Day in 2008 to help support small businesses owned by those who proudly served (or continue to serve) our great nation! Thank you one and all!
It is the Veteran
It is the Veteran, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Veteran, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Veteran, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Veteran, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the Veteran, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Veteran, not the politician,
who has given us the right to vote.
It is the veteran, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, Who gave his oath to support and defend The Constitution and Our Nation Against all Enemies, Foreign and Domestic and whose coffin is draped by the flag
It is the Veteran, with faith in God and Country, who has given us all our Freedoms!
ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM
